North Reading has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to receive substantial funds from the Massachusetts School Building Authority to build a new High School and improve the Middle School.

On June 7, 2010, the town voted to fund the next phase of this project — the feasibility study and schematic design.

On December 7th, 2010 the NRSSBC selected PMA Construction Services as the Owner’s Project Manager.  Chris Simmler is now helping us organize the project and moving it forward with the MSBA.

On April 19th, 2011, the MSBA selected Dore & Whittier as the architect for the project.  Brad Dore is leading the effort for his firm.  We are currently scoping out the future educational needs for the middle and high school programs, and these educational initiatives will then be incorporated in the new building design.

On September 28th, 2011 the MSBA chose to allow us to proceed with developing the plans for an integrated High School / Middle School with combined core facilities (cafeteria, library, gym, and auditorium).  This is the most cost-effective option to update the town’s secondary schools.

On January 25th, 2012, the MSBA agreed with our cost estimate for the project.  This enables us to bring the issue to a town vote.

The special Town Meeting is schedules for Monday, March 19th at 7pm in the high school auditorium.  The town vote will be on Saturday, March 24th.  Polling will take place at St. Theresa’s Church from 7am to 8pm.

We presented an update on the project at the October 3rd Town Meeting and continue to provide updates through a series of presentations at the schools’ parent association meetings, the school committee meetings, and at other appropriate venues around town.  Please see the News section for the most current listing of meetings.

For more information on the status of the project, please attend a meeting of the building committee (schedule is posted on the town website), check back at this website, or email us with your specific questions.
