Middle School/High School Feasibility Study

To see if the Town will vote to appropriate, borrow or transfer from available funds, a sum of money to be expended under the direction of the Secondary School Building Committee for a feasibility study to investigate potential options and solutions, including cost estimates and schematic drawings, to the deficiencies identified in the Statement of Interest submitted to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for the existing North Reading High School, that may include a study of options and solutions involving the North Reading Middle School, for which feasibility study the Town may be eligible for a grant from the Massachusetts School Building Authority. The MSBA’s grant program is a non-entitlement, discretionary program based on need, as determined by the MSBA, and any costs the Town incurs in connection with the feasibility study in excess of any grant approved by and received from MSBA shall be the sole responsibility of the Town; or what it will do in relation thereto.

Description…
This article funds up to $1million for the first phase of the process to getting MSBA approval for the renovation of the existing middle school with the ultimate goal of creating combined middle school/high school. A sum of money is necessary to cover the cost of the feasibility study and the hiring of an Owners Project Manager, as required by the MSBA. It is expected a vote on this Article will be delayed to a continued session of Town Meeting on June 7,
2010.
